An early-morning shooting on the Palmetto Expressway led to one person being hospitalized while police investigate if this was a case of road rage.

Police say a Lamborghini was traveling northbound from Flagler Street, trying to get onto State Road 836 eastbound around 1:30 a.m. Thursday when someone shot at the vehicle.

In a statement to FHP troopers, the driver said a white SUV drove on the left shoulder of the on-ramp and began shooting. He said there were between three and five shots fired, but because glass from a shattered window went into his eyes, he was unable to get a view of the shooter or car.

The driver took himself and his girlfriend to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where police set up a perimeter around the vehicle. The driver sustained injuries to his eyes from the broken glass, but his girlfriend was unhurt.

Officers still do not know if the vehicle was targeted or if this was an act of road rage. The driver was released from the hospital and left in his vehicle without speaking to the media.
