El Carajo Cashier Accused of Taking Thousands of Dollars from Restaurant: Police

30-year-old Oscar Orta is being charged with grand theft and organized fraud

A cashier at El Carajo has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $33,000 from the restaurant.

According to a police report, 30-year-old Oscar Orta is being charged with grand theft and organized fraud.

For over a year, Orta had been voiding transactions hours after they were completed and taking the money from his cashier, the report says.

The company noticed a disproportional amount of voided transactions from Orta's cashier, which prompted an audit and review of surveillance footage, the report says.

According to police, surveillance video showed Orta voiding transactions with no customers in sight. Orta would also be seen taking cash from the register and folding it within a paper towel.

Orta was recorded voiding 742 transactions in 254 shifts, resulting in hundreds of dollars being taken every working day, the police report says.

Police say Orta surrendered himself and offered to pay back the business.
