A man is facing charges after authorities say he shot and killed an elderly man while mishandling a handgun in Dania Beach over the weekend.
Cristofer Ricardo Guzman Aristy, 19, was charged with manslaughter in the Saturday afternoon shooting of 84-year-old Louis Salvador at his home on Southwest 14th Street, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.
Officials said Aristy and two other men were inside the home handling two handguns when Aristy accidentally discharged one of the weapons. The bullet went through a sofa and the home's wall before it hit Salvador in the back as he sat in a chair on a front porch outside the home.
Salvador was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Aristy fled the home but was later arrested.
Aristy was being held on more than $100,000 bond Tuesday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
