Enrique Iglesias Given Fine in Miami-Dade Traffic Stop

Singer Enrique Iglesias will only have to pay a small fine after most of the charges related to a Miami-Dade traffic stop were dropped Thursday.

Iglesias is facing a $169 fine for violation of traffic control device in the May 6 stop on I-95 by the Florida Highway Patrol, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office said.

Charges of obstruction and driving with a license suspended and expired were dropped.

"Mr. Iglesias's conduct on May 6 did not rise to the level of obstruction necessary to justify the state pursuing criminal charges against Mr. Iglesias," the state attorney's office said in a memo closing the case.

According to the FHP, Iglesias was pulled over in a Cadillac Escalade after a trooper spotted the SUV driving northbound on Interstate 95 in the closed express lanes.

As the trooper pulled the Escalade over, Iglesias jumped from the driver's seat into the back and the passenger got into the driver's seat, according to an FHP arrest affidavit. Iglesias then climbed into the passenger seat, the report said.

Iglesias and the passenger, identified as Abel Tabuyo, were handcuffed, and Iglesias invoked his Miranda rights, the report said. Tabuyo said he didn't know why he switched seats with Iglesias, the report said.

The state attorney's office said the fact that Iglesias and Tabuyo changed seats "did not hinder the officer's investigation in any way."
