Experts Say Christmas Laser a Danger for Pilots

Experts say holiday lasers designed to light up homes could be dangerous for planes.

Florida Today reports that the popular laser lights can shine miles away when not properly positioned. They can light up the cockpit of an aircraft or even hit a pilot's eye.

Scott Winter, an assistant professor of aeronautical science at Florida Institute of Technology, said it is important to make sure the lights are shining entirely on a house, wall, garage door or other surface.

Winter says people often do not realize the lights are a hazard.

The laser decorations are an easy and popular alternative to strands of traditional Christmas lights.
