Miami Mother's Killer Arrested: Police

Bertram Clark, 42, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday afternoon

The man who police say coldly gunned down a mother in front of her two children in Overtown Monday was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Bertram "Nobie" Clark, 42, was taken into custody without incident near Northwest 14th Place and Northwest 212th Street in Miami Gardens after detectives got a tip from a viewer watching the news, Miami Police spokeswoman Detective Keandra Simmons said in a statement.

He was not armed when he was taken into custody and is now being questioned, Simmons said.

His apprehension came just hours after the family of Shanquendra Williams asked for the public's help in finding Clark.

Williams, 25, was found unresponsive and lying in a pool of blood in her apartment in the 1200 block of Northwest 1st Place in Overtown on Monday.

Police said Clark, Williams' former boyfriend, pistol-whipped her before shooting her multiple times in front of her two young children.

"I would never think he would do this, he betrayed us," mother Judditte Williams said. "He gave me this image that he cared about the children."

She said the couple had been in a relationship for six or seven years.

"She lived for her kids, why would he want to take her away from her two kids?" Judditte Williams said. "For him to do that is very senseless."

Clark has a lengthy arrest record for cocaine possession, armed robbery and burglary and criminal mischief, according to court records. He was charged with first-degree murder in 1990 but acquitted by a jury in 1991. In 1994, he was convicted of third-degree murder and sentenced to serve 12 years behind bars. He was released in 2005.

Police said earlier Wednesday that Clark should be considered armed and dangerous.

"I could care less where he is hiding, he just needs to give us closure," sister Sherkera Williams said.

The family said they and Williams' children miss her very much.

"She was a fun person, she would make you laugh," sister Marquetta Boyd said. "She was a loved person, very fun person to be with. She lived for her kids."
