The family of a Miami-Dade man whose body was found more than a month ago is asking for the public's help in finding his killer or killers.
Christian Joseph McKenzie, 21, was last seen leaving his house in his truck on Nov. 14. His father said he became suspicious when he didn't show up to work.
The Miami-Dade Police Department's Missing Persons Unit conducted an investigation into his disappearance and McKenzie's truck was found abandoned in a remote area of southwest Miami-Dade off of Southwest 232nd Street and 187th Avenue.
The next morning, an officer found his body lying along the canal bank on 408th Street and 232nd Avenue near the abandoned Aerojet testing site for rockets. He had gunshot wounds to his torso, police said.
Police say people often use that area for target practice because it's so remote. McKenzie's father says his son told him he had been to that area before with a friend.
McKenzie's parents say he was very hardworking and had two jobs. They believe someone that knows him did this to him.
"He was a very kind and loving and caring child who works very hard," mother Adena McKenzie said at a news conference Friday. "I don't know why somebody would do that."
Detectives believe McKenzie went to the remote area with someone he knew. McKenzie's body was found on the road near the abandoned Aerojet Rocket facility. His father says his son had mentioned this remote site before.
"He told me like two years ago that he went there once with a friend of his and how desolate and dark it was and way out in the boonies," Arthur McKenzie said.
It's been more than a month since the passing of their son, and few clues have lead police to the suspect. Now, this grieving family says they are looking for closure.
"As a mom it's unbearable and it can happen to anybody, so I hope someone can come forward," Adena McKenzie said.
