Family Looks for New Apartment After Boy, 4, Is Attacked by Pit Bull

The boy was attacked by a neighbors pit bull last Thursday.

After being attacked by a neighbors pit bull last week, a 4-year-old is so frightened to go home, his family is looking for a new apartment.

The family has been staying with relatives after Thursday's attack that left Axel Donado with 23 stitches on his head, three inside his ear and a bruise on his back.

"We have to now look for an apartment," father Oscar Davila said.

The attack happened Thursday night outside the family's apartment at 1873 Northwest 19th Terrace. One of the neighbor's dogs got loose, crawled under the fence and attacked the child and a family chihuahua.

Donado spent that night and the next morning in the hospital. He will have to miss school on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the neighbor, who owns two pit bulls, will be charged $1,000 because one of the dogs bit the child, according to Miami-Dade Animal Services. He will be charged another $500 per dog for owning the pit bulls that are illegal in Miami-Dade County.

The dogs will be quarantined for 10 days and must be removed from the county after that.

"It can't stay like that like nothing happened," Davila said. "This is my son and he's going to remember that day forever."
