The mother of a teacher killed in the tragic mass shooting inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School earlier this year is finally getting some relief after battling a flight bill for over $36,000 to come see her son.

Linda Schulman posted a message Monday on Facebook detailing how Talon Air Inc. had charged her over $18,000 for a flight on February 14th to allow herself and others to arrive in South Florida from their home outside New York City after news that her son, geography teacher and cross country coach Scott Beigel, was one of the 17 people who lost his life at the Parkland school.

Schulman said she had to charter the plane after no flights could be found out of any commercial airports in the area – but the mother’s outrage came when the company charged her another fee of over $18,000 for the plane to return back home since they could not find anyone else to fill the flight.

On Tuesday, Schulman posted a letter she received from the founder of the airline, Adam Katz, apologizing for the second charge and refunding the family’s flight to Fort Lauderdale – while also making an $18,000 donation to the Scott Beigel Memorial Fund.

Schulman thanked the company for resolving the issue and said she would be giving back a $2000 refund that Talon Air had initially given to the family after learning of the circumstances surrounding their flight.
