Fans Spent $35 Million for Florida-Georgia Game

Jacksonville city leaders say the annual Florida-Georgia football game weekend brought in $35 million in spending to the area in 2015, an increase over the previous year.

The city of Jacksonville on Friday said the game between the University of Florida Gators and University of Georgia Bulldogs drew an estimated 140,000 tourists from outside the city.

The city's estimates are based on hotel registration data and bed tax revenue.

The spending data show an increase over the previous year, with $3.6 million hotel room revenue for the weekend. That exceeded 2014 by about $200,000.

The Florida Times-Union reports that it was the 82nd year of the popular rivalry game to be hosted in Jacksonville.
