A crash that left a 15-year-old dead and his mother hospitalized had a section of Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade closed Wednesday.
Southbound I-95 was closed at Northwest 103rd Street following the fatal crash, Florida Highway Patrol officials said. The highway reopened hours later.
FHP officials said the 15-year-old boy and his mother were in a black Nissan that was stopped on the shoulder of the express lanes when their vehicle was struck by a white Dodge Challenger.
Witnesses said the Challenger was going at a high rate of speed and had been driving recklessly, officials said.
The mom and son were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where the teen later died. The mother was in critical condition.
The driver of the Challenger was also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Charges against her are pending, officials said.
Officials haven't released the identities of the people involved in the crash. No other information was immediately known.
