A crash that killed an elderly woman had the southbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway in Coral Springs closed Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened just after 12:15 p.m. between Atlantic Boulevard and Commercial Boulevard and involved a white Cadillac and a tractor-trailer.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said Betty Jane Kukla, 86, of Deerfield Beach, was a passenger in the Cadillac DTS that was being driven by 88-year-old Carl Kukla.
At one point, the Cadillac veered off the roadway and struck the tractor-trailer, which was stopped on the shoulder. Kukla was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The southbound lanes of the Sawgrass were closed but most were later opened back up.
