FAU Cancels Commencement Ceremony Over ‘Credible Threat'

Florida Atlantic University said it has canceled a commencement ceremony on Tuesday due to a "credible threat."

FAU announced the Student Union building was evacuated on Twitter.

"Today’s 5 p.m. commencement ceremony is canceled. The Student Union is being evacuated due to what law enforcement considers a credible threat," FAU wrote.

During a press conference, officials said an FAU staff member found a note in a women's bathroom. The letter implied a threat that was specific to the commencement and officials decided to evacuate the building and cancel the ceremony.

Officials did not describe what threat was made.

FAU's College of Arts and Letters, College of Medicine and College of Science were scheduled for the 5 p.m. ceremony. Over 400 students were scheduled to participate.

"Every effort will be made to give these students the recognition they deserve," said Joshua D. Glanzer, FAU assistant vice president.

FAU is located in Boca Raton.
