Arrest Made in Miami Shores Bank Robbery

The FBI said it has made an arrest in a bank robbery that occurred in Miami Shores Wednesday.

John Fontus, 33, is facing federal charges related to the robbery at the Wells Fargo branch at 9899 Northeast 2nd Avenue.

According to the FBI, Fontus entered the bank around 12:13 p.m. Wednesday and demanded money from an employee.

Money was taken but the amount wasn't released. No one was injured in the robbery.

Fontus was arrested by the Miami Shores Police Department and the FBI without incident Thursday in Miami, according to an FBI spokesman.

The FBI said information that helped lead to the arrest came from tips provided by the public.

Fontus is expected to make his first appearance Friday at the Federal Courthouse in Miami.
