Feds Raid Little Havana Pharmacy

Federal agents raided a pharmacy in Little Havana Tuesday after an investigation linked the business to fraudulent activities, officials said.

The FBI along with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services raided Calan Pharmacy at 1879 W. Flagler Street.

Federal agents were seen removing boxes and other items as would-be customers were turned away.

"My mom came to buy her medicines she buys in this place and the police was there," customer Chris Rivero said. "She probably got to go to Walgreens or CVS, try to get her medicine. She's got Medicare so anywhere she goes she can get it."

Witnesses said they saw the pharmacy's owner, Arturo Calan, in handcuffs behind the business. Nearby, a woman was seen being questioned by agents.

The woman claimed she didn't know why the agents were there. It's unknown if Calan will be facing charges.

Officials didn't give many details on the raid, only saying they executed a search warrant at the address. The "strike force" operates out of Miami and investigates health care fraud.
