Man killed, woman injured in crash, FHP looking for truck that left scene

Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that killed one pedestrian and sent another to the hospital in southwest Miami-Dade late Thursday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez, the man and woman were attempting to cross the street at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Southwest 288th Street when they were struck by a white Honda around 11:30 p.m.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was taken to Homestead Hospital where her condition was unknown.

The driver of the Honda stayed at the scene. Sanchez said a second vehicle, a small red truck, also ran over the man and fled the scene.

Sanchez said a large crowd of family members showed up at the scene, with one man threatening to go to his home and get his AK-47. Miami-Dade Police were called to the scene to assist FHP and stabilize the scene, Sanchez said.

"We understand the situation, it's hard anytime anyone loses a family member," Sanchez said.

Authorities are still investigating the crash and are trying to locate the red truck. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
