Fiery Crash Closes Sample Road in Pompano Beach

Multiple injuries were reported after a fiery crash on Sample Road at Military Trail Monday morning.

Three people were injured after a fiery crash on Sample Road at Military Trail in Pompano Beach Monday morning.

At least four cars were involved in the crash in the westbound lanes of Sample Road. Four patients, a woman and three men, were taken to Broward Health North and one of them was a trauma alert, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials said.

Officials said the impact sheared off the gas tank of a pickup truck and it caught fire.

Footage showed at least three vehicles had been on fire. Two pickups and a car were left badly burned, with one of the pickups resting on top of the car.

The 45-year-old woman had critical injuries, including burns, officials said.

"Everyone was stopping, getting out, helping as best they could," witness Marquis Hoggins said.

Hoggins said he was walking to work when he saw a car suddenly stop, leading to the fiery crash.

"The red car, I saw, it stopped all of a sudden, I don't know why it stopped," he said. "But as it stopped, I watched the cars, the other cars were out of control, and kind of piled on top of each other."

Hoggins said the woman was pulled to safety by a stranger who used a brick to break open her door.

"She was like, in a sigh of relief for like a split second," he said. "But she was out, in and out, fainting."
