Fire Alarm Control Panel Thefts Widespread in South Florida: Officials

Broward County fire officials said they're still investigating a rash of fire alarm control panels from apartment and condo buildings throughout South Florida.

Less than 24 hours after a man facing 111 charges in control panel thefts in Coral Springs appeared in bond court, officials announced that at least 10 cities across the area have been hit by the same crime dating back to 2012.

More than 150 cases have been reported in that time. Officials said the thefts put residents of the buildings at great danger if a fire were to break out.

Michael Moser, 38, was arrested earlier this week in the Coral Springs cases. Authorities announced an arrest in more cases Thursday but didn't say whether it was Moser.

Investigators said they've uncovered similar cases in Miami-Dade and expect to find more buildings unaware that their systems have been hit.

Detectives are still investigating the thefts and at least one more suspect is sought, officials said.
