Several residents were evacuated after a fire swept through an apartment building in Hollywood Monday morning.

The fire broke out at the building in the 2100 block of Jackson Street around 3 a.m.

The occupant of the unit where the fire began said he left to go to the store and when he came back, the apartment was on fire.

Residents were able to evacuate the building and no injuries were reported. One young girl said she helped to get her dog out of the building.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and one official called it "a little suspicious."

"It's important to try to gather all the data before we make any conclusions, but we have called the state Florida fire marshal to help us to make sure that all the data and all the information is gathered appropriately," Hollywood Fire Department Division Chief Joel Medina said.
