Fire Inspectors Confiscate $1 Million in Illegal Fireworks in Miami Gardens

Fire inspectors busted an illegal fireworks operation in Miami Gardens Tuesday night, and firefighters and bomb squad officials will be working to safely remove the $1 million worth of illegal fireworks for the next several days.

An anonymous tip led investigators to the warehouse located just off the Golden Glades Expressway at 17401 Northwest Second Avenue.

Fire inspectors and state fire marshals seized control of the building and confiscated illegal fireworks with a street value of $1 million, officials said.

The warehouse was loaded with some serious firepower. The explosives were wrapped in colorful marketing and branded with fun names like "Candy Crusher," "Dragon's Breath," and "Fifty Shades of Boom."

The store called Sky King Fireworks was fully staffed but barely open to the public.

Miami-Dade Fire said it will take the next few days to confiscate all of the fireworks.

So far no arrests have been made.

As the 4th of July holiday weekend quickly approaches, it is noteworthy to remember that it is illegal in Miami-Dade to sell fireworks that explode or shoot into the air.
