A City of Miami firefighter was in critical condition after he was involved in a motorcycle crash on his way to work Monday morning, officials said.
Hector Seigle has been working with City of Miami Fire-Rescue for 21 years.
The crash happened just after 6 a.m. in the intersection of South Dixie Highway and Southwest 22 Avenue when the firefighter's motorcycle collided with a pickup truck, Miami Fire-Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.
"That crew responded to an alarm like we normally do, but you can imagine how shocked they were when they saw that it was one of our own that was down on the ground needing help and he was unconscious," Carroll said.
Seigle was transported to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
"He sustained some pretty critical injuries that (were) to the head, even to the chest area and his arms," Carroll said.
The driver of the truck was not injured, authorities said.

Miami Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
Fire trucks lined up outside Ryder Trauma Center as Seigle's coworkers came to comfort concerned family members. His brother, David Seigle, said they appreciated the support.
"He likes a little bit of adrenaline, so he’s a master diver and that’s why he was on the dive team, and he loved being a firefighter and helping other people," he said of Hector Seigle.
