Firefighter Injured Fighting Ft. Lauderdale Blaze

Firefighters in Fort Lauderdale were busy putting out a fire at a vacant home early Wednesday.

A call went out that a flames were shooting out through the roof at an empty duplex located at 2421 Northwest 23rd Lane in Fort Lauderdale.

That fire left a giant, gaping hole in the roof of the home.

Neighbor Sabrina Harris lives next door, and says she woke up to fire crews warning her of the dangerous situation just a few feet away.

"We were asleep, it scared us," Harris said. "We didn't know what was going on."

Thankfully, no one was inside the unit. According to Harris, the unit has been vacant for the last few years, making it unclear how the fire could have started.

"There's no electrical boxes there, so it's kind of funny," she says. "It is suspicious for it to be on fire and no one on the inside."

Crews were able to quickly put the fire out. One firefighter was taken to Broward Health North to be treated for injuries. That lieutenant is said to be in stable condition.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
