FIU Professor Arrested in Alleged Sexual Assault Case

Authorities say they've arrested a Florida International University business professor accused of sexually assaulting his housekeeper.

A U.S. Marshals Service news release says David Ralston, 69, was arrested Thursday at a Fort Lauderdale hotel. He faces a charge of sexual assault of a helpless victim.

The release says Ralston gave his housekeeper a drugged beverage that made her feel disoriented in his Fort Myers home. The victim said he sexually assaulted her, despite her effort to push him away.

The release says the victim was transported back home after being found in Ralston's driveway. The victim reported the assault to police, and they got a warrant to search his home. Police say they found a surveillance video that captured the assault.

It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.

FIU released the following statement: "We are aware that FIU business professor David Ralston has been arrested this morning. He was last at the University at the conclusion of the Spring Semester and has no summer assignment."
