FIU's Jonnu Smith Drafted By Tennessee Titans Months After Boiling Water Attack

The Titans selected the tight end with the 100th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft

Florida International University's Jonnu Smith was drafted by the Tennessee Titans Friday night, just months after it looked like his football career was over when he suffered severe burns after his pregnant girlfriend allegedly threw boiling water on him.

The Titans selected the tight end with the 100th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft.

Smith's girlfriend was accused of dousing him with boiling water during an argument last October. Smith sustained severe burns to various parts of his body, including his head, neck, back and arm.

His girlfriend was charged with aggravated battery in the incident.

Smith was considered one of the top tight ends in college football last season before he was sidelined by the boiling water incident before returning for the final two games. He finished with 178 catches for 2,001 yards receiving for his career at FIU.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson said Smith detailed what happened to the GM and will keep that conversation private. Smith said he's looking forward to coming to Tennessee to try to win games.

"That's not going to affect any of that," Smith said.
