Florida City Man, Woman Face Child Abuse Charges

A couple in Florida City who police say beat their children is facing child abuse and neglect charges.

Felicia LaCroix, 20, and D'Angelo Jones, 19, were booked Wednesday on charges of child abuse and child neglect, according to arrest reports.

Police responded Tuesday to the 100 block of South Redland Road, where the Department of Children and Families was following up on a child abuse complaint at the residence.

The DCF told authorities they saw bruises on their children's faces. When asked who hit them, the children -- a girl and boy -- told them LaCroix and Jones did, according to the arrest form.

According to police, LaCroix believes her own mother has been abusing the children -- and that her mother has been telling the children to blame LaCroix. LaCroix told police she picked the children up from her mother's house two days prior and saw the bruises on them.

LaCroix did not want to take her children to the hospital because she was warned that if she takes them to the hospital with bruises on them one more time, the police will be notified and her children would be taken away, the arrest report said.

DCF removed the two children -- including a one-month-old boy -- from the home and took them to the hospital for medical care.

Jones was booked on $17,500 bond and Jones was booked on $10,000 bond, jail records show.
