Florida Couple Married 65 Years Dies 2 Days Apart

St. Pete couple dies within 36 hours of each other

A man and woman married for 65 years died within 36 hours of each other and family members say that's how they would have wanted their lives to end.

The St. Petersburg Times reported Thursday that 82-year-old Dorothy McLeod died at a hospice on Saturday from lung cancer. Early Monday morning, 87-year-old Leroy McLeod died in the same hospice.

They met as children in a Lakeland elementary school and were married in 1946.

On Saturday, before Dorothy died, her husband shuffled to her bedside. Family members said he told his wife, "The next time I see you will be in heaven."
