Florida Elections Official Fired After Shoving Match With Deputies

Jeff Darter faces two felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer

Authorities say a manager of information technology at a Florida elections office has been fired after shoving detectives who attempted to grab his cellphone during a child pornography investigation.

The Palm Beach Post reports 61-year-old Jeff Darter faces two felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer. He was arrested Wednesday.

An arrest report says detectives wanted to inquire about an image of a man sexually assaulting a young girl. Investigators tracked the photo to Darter’s mobile chat app account. The detective feared Darter was deleting files, so she grabbed the phone. He shoved the detectives and tried to grab the phone back.

Palm Beach County Elections Supervisor Wendy Sartory Link said Darter was fired Wednesday.

A lawyer wasn’t listed on Darter’s jail records. He hasn’t been charged in the child porn case.
