Florida Girl Accused of Trying to Poison Teacher's Coffee

A 13-year-old Florida girl was arrested after she was accused of trying to poison her teacher by putting powdered chalk in her coffee.

The girl was arrested Tuesday on a charge of poisoning food or water to kill or injure a person in the September 16 incident, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said the girl, a student at the Achieve Center of Pasco, took a beige piece of sidewalk chalk she was using for a class assignment and made it into a powder.

She distracted the teacher and put the powder into the coffee. As the teacher began to drink the coffee, another student stopped the teacher, officials said.

The school is for students with emotional and behavior issues.
