Florida Gov. Rick Scott Pushes Districts Again on Pay Raise

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is asking school superintendents once again to finalize pay raises for teachers

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is asking school superintendents once again to finalize pay raises for teachers.

Scott on Monday sent out a letter pointing out that 28 districts have finalized pay raises, while another 15 districts have reached tentative agreements over the raises. Florida has 67 school districts.

The governor pushed the Republican-controlled Legislature this past spring to set aside $480 million to pay for a $2,500 across the board pay raise.

Legislators agreed to the spending request, but they gave school districts leeway in how the raises could be handed out.

Scott in his letter called on the remaining districts to finish negotiations immediately with local teacher unions so teachers can start receiving their raise by the start of 2014.
