Florida's unemployment rate continues to drop slightly.
The July unemployment rate was 5.4 percent, compared to 5.6 percent for the previous month. The state added 30,500 jobs last month, according to figures released Friday by the Department of Economic Opportunity.
The state's jobless rate remains higher than the national rate of 5.3 percent. There are approximately 517,000 unemployed Floridians.
Gov. Rick Scott announced the new unemployment rate at a manufacturing facility in Naples. Scott has made job creation the main focus during his time in office.
New national data shows that Florida added the third highest number of jobs in the nation in May. California and Texas added more jobs than Florida did last month.
Monroe County, which includes the Florida Keys, had the state's lowest unemployment rate at 3.9 percent, while Hendry County in the state's interior had the highest jobless rate at 12.7 percent.
