A Port Charlotte man has been sentenced to three years in prison and 25 years of probation for stealing $92,000 from a scholarship fund.

The Charlotte Sun reported Sunday that 60-year-old Michael Cripps was the catechism instructor at the Englewood Masonic Lodge.

Cripps turned himself in to authorities in July after the money went missing from the scholarship fund for Lemon Bay High School students and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Investigators say he had been taking money from the fund since 2007.
