Florida Postal Worker Accused of Hoarding, Destroying Mail

A north Florida postal worker is accused of hoarding, opening and destroying mail that she was supposed to deliver.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports Christine Rovelto faces four counts relating to incidents that occurred between May 7 and Dec. 23. A federal indictment was filed Feb. 25.

Inspector General special agent Kenny Smith says Rovelto is on no-duty status while the case is pending.

She worked as a contract mail carrier at the Lecanto Post Office.

Authorities say an anonymous tipster informed them that trays of mail were on Rovelto's front porch in Dunnellon. The mail was recovered.

An affidavit says Rovelto admitted she "knew it was wrong not to deliver the mail" but she failed because of the volume of work.

It's not clear whether she's hired an attorney.
