Florida School Board Accused of Mishandling Child Porn Allegation

A former high school student is suing a Florida school board, saying it mishandled her sexual misconduct allegation against a former school employee.

Treasure Coast Newspapers reports Marissa Hedden says St. Lucie County's school board failed to investigate former employee Alexander Marcial Rivera after she accused him in May 2018 of showing her a sexually explicit photograph and asking her to give him nude pictures.

She was a junior at the time. Her lawsuit says Marcial Rivera remained employed until his August 2018 arrest on charges of possessing child pornography and promoting a sexual performance by a child.

The school district said Wednesday that any child-abuse allegation involving an employee is immediately reported and "thoroughly investigated by law enforcement with the full support of St. Lucie public schools."
