Florida State, Michigan Selected for 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl

Two of the top college football programs all –time will hit the field inside Hard Rock Stadium later this month for the 83rd Capital One Orange Bowl.

The Florida State Seminoles and Michigan Wolverines were selected Sunday for the game, taking place December 30th at 8 PM.

FSU, which played once already in 2016 inside Hard Rock Stadium when they defeated the Miami Hurricanes on October 8th, come into the game with a record of 9-3 and on a four game winning streak. They were selected to fill the bowl’s contract with the ACC – which sends its champion to the game unless that team qualifies for the College Football Playoff.

After Clemson won the ACC title Saturday, they were selected for the playoff and the 11th ranked Seminoles, being the highest ranked remaining team from the conference, was selected for the Orange Bowl. It will be the 10th time FSU will play in the bowl, the third most of any team.

Michigan, meanwhile, comes in with a record of 10-2 and losses in two of their last three games. They come to South Florida ranked 6th in the polls and will be making their third appearance in the bowl game. They were selected as the highest ranked team remaining from either the SEC or the Big Ten.

The two teams have met twice before – with Michigan winning their contest in 1986 and Florida State coming out on top in 1991.
