Florida State University Shooting Victims Named as Students Return to Classes

Students returned to classes at Florida State University Friday a day after a gunman opened fire at a campus library, wounding three students before he was shot and killed by police.

Tallahassee Police said the three victims are: Elijah Velez, 18; Nathan Scott, 30; and Farhan Ahmed, 21. Police said Velez was grazed and treated at the scene while Scott and Ahmed are both being treated at local hospitals.

Support for the school has poured in from all over the country, including from just down the road in Gainesville. Students at the University of Florida heled a moment of silence and donned the Garnet and Gold to show unity with students of FSU.

FSU President John Thrasher greeted students as they were allowed back inside Strozier Library, the scene of Thursday morning's shooting.

"There's a lot of unity, our students feel that love and support, that's why they're back on campus this morning," Thrasher said.

Senior Andrew Kitterman said his legs were shaking as he walked the steps up to the library Friday morning.

"I thought it was important to be here when it reopened," Kitterman said. "I've been to Strozier everyday for the last three weeks, you have to come back, you have to move on."

The library was closed Thursday and classes canceled after police say 31-year-old Myron May, a 2005 graduate of FSU, shot three victims in the library that was packed with students studying for exams.

"I don't know if he was going through difficulties, he couldn't express himself and wanted a way out, but this was not the way to do it," said student Kylie Gay.

FSU Police and Tallahassee Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Strozier said Thursday that there would be increased security measures at the school and that counseling would be provided for students, faculty and staff.
