Florida Still Center Stage During Final Day of 2016 Presidential Campaign

The countdown has hit the final hours until Election Day 2016 arrives – and the state of Florida remains one of the top focus areas for both major party Presidential campaigns.

Republican nominee Donald Trump will speak at a rally with supporter in Sarasota this morning – part of a five state tour in the final day of the campaign.

Meanwhile, surrogates for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton will also be in the Sunshine State, as Vice President Joe Biden will attend any event with legendary singer Jimmy Buffett in St. Petersburg this evening. Another musical legend, Cher, will attend a fundraiser for Clinton on Miami Beach this evening.

The visits come after both candidates - as well as surrogates on both sides - have spent much of the last week and a half going across the state as Florida again looks to be coming down to the wire. A new Quinnipiac University poll shows Clinton with just a one point lead in the Sunshine State, along with a two point lead over Trump in North Carolina.

While the stats on early voting where impressive – almost half of the state’s 12.8 million registered voters have already cast their ballots, including nearly 1.4 million in Miami-Dade and Broward counties – officials expect crowds to still be at the voting booths on Tuesday. The Justice Department says it will monitor the polls in five counties across Florida – including Miami-Dade and Palm Beach.
