The Davie Police Department released video footage of last week's incident in which a car slammed into a Pollo Tropical, killing one woman.
The incident occurred Friday shortly before 3 p.m. at the Pollo Tropical located at 5780 S. University Drive.
The woman killed was identified as 41-year-old Zamara Gonzalez. She was pinned underneath the vehicle for up to 10 minutes.
Police, customers and others attempted to help take the car off the woman who was pinned but they were unable to fully free her.
Firefighters freed her by using an apparatus to move the car and pull her out. A man and a child sustained minor injuries.
Police said the red car that crashed inside was involved in a minor collision with a black Mercedes-Benz near the restaurant's entrance, which caused the driver of the red car – described as an elderly male – to lose control.
The incident is under investigation. Authorities believe it is possible the driver stepped on the gas pedal instead of the break. It is not yet clear if the driver will be charged or cited.
Local
The car stopped in the area of the restaurant where people order food. At the time of the crash, there were people waiting to order and pick up food.
