A former Broward Christian School teacher and coach arrested earlier this month was recruiting juvenile and adult females for sex trafficking, police said Wednesday.
Fort Lauderdale Police said James Sylvester Ross, 63, had more than 300 index cards listing a different female's first name with descriptive characteristics, a telephone number and the female's hobbies or interests.
When Ross was a teacher at Broward Christian in Plantation, he would primarily contact students, according to authorities. Ross was last employed at the school in 2001, police said, but they did not say why he left.
Ross was busted in an undercover police operation on Feb. 5th. Members of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department's human trafficking unit posed as teenage girls and another undercover detective posed as a potential client. Ross told the undercover client he could have sex with the juveniles in exchange for money and arranged for the three to meet, police said.
The group met at the Dunkin' Donuts at 3280 Davie Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, where Ross was arrested.
He was charged with one count of procuring a minor for prostitution and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device, online jail records show. He is being held on $8,500 bond.
