Former Florida Deputy Facing Charges in Deadly DUI Crash

A former Pinellas County deputy is facing multiple drunken driving charges for a crash that left a woman dead.

Timothy Vaughan has been charged with DUI manslaughter and three other counts for the May 6 crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that the 37-year-old was driving on a Palmetto road when he swerved into one motorcycle, sending it crashing into another motorcycle. Authorities say a passenger on the second motorcycle, 20-year-old Alexandria Marler, fell off the bike and was run over by Vaughan's car.

Local media outlets report that Vaughan told investigators he drank a six pack of beer before dinner and stopped drinking more than four hours before the crash. Tests registered Vaughan's blood alcohol level at more than twice the legal limit.

The sheriff's office fired Vaughan the day after the crash. Jail records didn't list an attorney.
