Police Locate Former Hialeah Teacher Making YouTube Threats

Detectives have located the former Hialeah teacher who was seen on YouTube making alarming and frightening remarks about the local elementary school he used to work at.

Officials located the suspect in Washington D.C. after following several leads. Hialeah Police and other federal and local authorities have made contact with the man. But it's unclear if they have detained him.

The man who identifies himself as David Givens is currently under surveillance, officials said. The Miami-Dade School Board says Givens worked at North Hialeah Elementary until 2014.

“I, Mr. Givens, the man, order Donald Trump, the President of the United States, to send me, David Givens, back with armored tanks to reclaim North Hialeah Elementary,” said Givens in a YouTube video.

According to the school board, Givens worked at the school for 13 years. He was terminated in 2014 as a result of a certification issue. Residents who live around the school express concern.

“Well, yes, I am worried because I live across the street and there are many very small children who go to that school every day,” said one area resident.

Givens has posted dozens of videos online in which the man, who claims to be homeless in Washington, D.C., makes menacing comments.

“I specifically ask military with armored tanks to go down to Miami to shut this school district down,” said Givens in another video.

The Miami-Dade School Board issued a statement saying, “While we cannot ascertain the validity of these concerning messages, Miami-Dade County Public Schools has taken all possible precautions to ensure that there is no imminent risk to students and employees of the school. The school district is working in cooperation with the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homeland Security Bureau, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office and law enforcement authorities in Hialeah and Washington, D.C. Parents and employees have been notified of the situation. A full-time Hialeah Police officer, as well as an armed guard, are assigned to the school.”

The school board said that the information is also being circulated through the Fusion Center, where threat related information is received, analyzed, gathered and shared.
