A former University of Miami football player found himself being bars after being arrested on charges of allegedly assaulting a neighbor inside his Brickell apartment building and later damaging her unit.

Sunny Odogwu, who spent four seasons as an offensive lineman for the Hurricanes, was arrested Monday evening stemming from the January 19th incident inside the Camden Apartment located at 51 Southwest 11th Street.

The 26-year-old Odogwu was given a $58,000 bond on the five charges, which included burglary, false imprisonment and battery.

According to an arrest report, the victim said she was awakened by a fire alarm inside the building around midnight when she opened the door and saw a man she later identified as Odogwu standing outside.

The victim said Odogwu tried to kiss her before going inside her apartment and causing damage to items inside. Afterward, he allegedly dragged the victim by her hair toward a different room and squeezed her head in between his legs while pulling out her hair – reportedly saying “no one is going to come help you” as she screamed.

Eventually, she was able to escape into another apartment as Odugwu went back to her unit and destroyed more items. Police did not say in the report if the victim knew Odogwu at all before the incident.

After redshirting in the 2013 season, Odogwu spent one season as a reserve before cracking the starting lineup in 2015. He started the first five games of the 2016 season before being injured for the year in a loss to Florida State and transferring for his final season in 2017 to UCLA.
