Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport Reopens Tuesday, Broward, Miami-Dade Schools Resume Classes Wednesday

South Florida beginning to return to normal after Hurricane Dorian

Broward County officials announced the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport would reopen Tuesday and public school would resume classes Wednesday as Hurricane Dorian continued to move away from South Florida.

Public schools in Miami-Dade will also resume classes on Wednesday, officials said.

The decision comes after Hurricane Dorian began moving out of the area. The National Hurricane Center on Tuesday said Dorian is not expected to make any landfall in Florida.

FLL and North Perry Airport were resuming operations at noon, officials said. Tri-Rail service would resume regular service on Wednesday.

Port Everglades was open Tuesday and was expecting its first vessel to arrive at 6 p.m.

Broward County's emergency shelters will close Tuesday. Broward courthouses would re-open on Wednesday.

Florida International University will resume classes Wednesday. Florida Memorial University, the University of Miami, Keiser University, the West Coast University Miami campus and the Southeastern College Miami Lakes campus are closed Tuesday. It is not clear if they will resume classes Wednesday.

Florida Atlantic University and Lynn University are closed through Wednesday.

Barry University was scheduled to resume classes at 8 a.m. Thursday.
