Free Music Festival Planned For Liberty City in Effort to Promote End to Gun Violence

The Liberty City section of Miami will be joining the concert world this June as some of the top names in hip hop will hit the stage – during a day celebrating the unity of the area while promoting an end to the recent violence it has been plagued by.

The “People Matter Fest” will take place on Saturday, June 17th inside Charles Hadley Park – located at NW 13th Avenue and 50th Street – from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature some of the top artists from Miami, being headlined by Trick Daddy and JT Money.

The event is coordinated by local radio deejay Papa Keith from 103.5 The Beat, a radio partner of NBC, and city commissioner Keon Hardemon in an effort to shine a positive light on the area. The day will also include a kid’s zone, a father/son basketball challenge along with food trucks, art vendors and more.

The day before, organizers are putting together a 24 Hour Cease Fire Campaign to get all residents in Miami-Dade County to put down their weapons starting 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 15th. The ceremony will be kicked off with a dedication by Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, and be concluded by Santonio Carter – the father of six-year-old King Carter, who was killed by a stray bullet outside of the family’s home.

Dedications will also take place on social media for the families of 24 different people who have been killed by gun violence in the area. The event is open to the public, but registration is required at this link.
