Ft. Lauderdale Air Show: What You Need to Know

Fighter jets and other military aircraft will soar and somersault over Fort Lauderdale Beach this weekend, as the annual Fort Lauderdale Air Show gets underway.

The main show area will take place at East Sunrise Blvd. North to the 1600 block of North A1A. The event area is scheduled to open at 9:00 a.m. daily and the show is scheduled to run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Among the planes on display: The F-18 Super Hornet Demo, the U.S. Coast Guard SAR Demo and the P-51 Quicksilver Mustang Demo.

Boaters are being advised of a no anchoring and safety zone off of the Ft. Lauderdale Beach Area. The area is being monitored by Ft. Lauderdale Police.

The safety box extends north from the Port Everglades Inlet to about one half mile south of the Commercial Pier, and from Ft. Lauderdale Beach east about one mile.

Northbound and southbound A1A will be closed for traffic from the north side of Sunrise Blvd. to Northeast 14th Court of A1A. The closures will take place on Saturday and Sunday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Residents in the impacted area will have a check point to access that area at Northeast 20th Street, entering from the north, East Oakland Park Blvd.

Wristbands will be available for parents to place on their children, allowing the parents to write a contact phone number on the wristband in case of separation. They can be found at A1A and Sunrise Blvd.
