Funeral Home Shooting Kills Two People, Injures At Least 12

About a dozen people were taken to area hospitals after the shooting at Funeraria Latina Emanuel

A second person has died from injuries sustained when a gunman opened fire on a crowd during a funeral home viewing in northeast Miami-Dade County Friday night, authorities said.

A total of 14 people were shot at Funeraria Latina Emanuel at 14990 W. Dixie Highway at 9:36 p.m., authorities said. Two people died and 12 were injured.

An injured 5-year-old girl who was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center was listed in stable condition, according to authorities.

"Horror, it was horrible and it was sounds of horror," said pastor A.D. Lenoir of Westview Baptist Church.

Lenoir had just finished officiating the service for 21-year-old Marvin Andre. Andre died after taking a fatal jump at Aventura Mall, the family's attorney confirmed. He was running from Bloomingdale's Loss Prevention in the mall, authorities said. They had tracked him down for using a fraudulent credit card.

Alvaro Zabaleta of Miami-Dade Police said that it is too early to tell if there was a motive for the funeral home shooting.

"Whenever you have these types of services, you have a lot of people present, they all become witnesses," Zabaleta said. "Too early to tell what the motive may be and if the person in the viewing has anything to do with it."

Zabaleta also said that a white vehicle that may have been involved in the shooting fled in an unknown direction.

An eyewitness told NBC 6 that a suspect in a white Pontiac opened fire on people as they waited outside for their turn to view the body.

"I was in the foyer, shaking hands, galvanizing with the people and shots were fired," said Lenoir.

The pastor also said the shooting was a tragedy, with one family in mourning, and then more families affected by the violence.
