Giant Burmese Python Found on Marco Island

Snake found coiled at waste water treatment plant was 12-14 feet long

A giant Burmese python was found coiled inside a valve cover box at the Marco Island Waste Water Treatment Plant.

A landscaper spotted the python Monday and called wildlife experts.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer tried to remove the python and place it into a bag using a pole and hook. The snake uncoiled and tried to escape from the valve box. As the python extended to its full length, it appeared to be around 12- to 14-feet long.

The Naples Daily News reports that the python will be scanned for a microchip that could identify its owner. It then will be euthanized and autopsied for research and to check for any eggs it might be carrying.
