An 11-year-old girl was OK after she drove an unattended car into a canal on Thursday, Lauderhill Fire Rescue said.
The girl's mother said her daughter forgot her cell phone in the car, and while her mother was making dinner, she went downstairs to get the phone. Somehow, she slipped the Nissan Altima into drive and plunged into the water.
A golfer heard the splash, ran over and dove in to help her get out.
Andrew Lindo said the girl was panicked but he just kept telling her to get out, and that he would catch her and help her safety. The location fo the canal was at 1600 block of 46th Avenue, officials said.
