Girl Kicked by Horse in Davie Suffers Serious Injuries

A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured after she was kicked by a horse in Davie Wednesday, officials said.

The girl was guiding the horse along the equestrian trail at 5400 Southwest 76th Avenue when the incident happened, Davie Fire officials said.

The teen was part of a riding camp, and her group included a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old.

When the horses got spooked, the two younger children were thrown off, officials said. The six-year-old suffered back and chest pain and was also hospitalized, but the third child wasn't injured.

The teen was kicked in the face by one of the horses. She was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital as a trauma alert and was in serious condition, officials said.

Carli Sparrell, who's part of another camp, witnessed the aftermath as it went down at Wolf Lake Park.

"The horse got spooked and she fell off and the horse kicked her in the face," Sparrell said. "It was pretty scary."

Davie Police believe it was an accident.
