Golden Beach Cops Busted for Grand Theft

Officers accused of working security jobs while on duty

Two Golden Beach police officers were arrested Tuesday on grand theft and organized scheme to defraud charges after authorities say they worked security jobs while they were on duty.

Officers Yovany Diaz, 33, and Omar Paez, 41, surrendered to Miami-Dade jail Tuesday, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Diaz also faces two counts of official misconduct.

The FDLE began an investigation in 2009 after the Miami-Dade Police received tips that cops were working security jobs while on duty and not compensating the city for administrative costs.

The total loss to Golden Beach for Diaz was $2,032, the FDLE said. The loss for Paez was $1,449.99.

Paez was being held on $10,000 bond, while Diaz was being held on $20,000.

The news comes months after another Golden Beach officer was arrested under similar circumstances.
