Golden Beach's Police Chief Resigns

Top cop steps down as three officers are investigated

The embattled Golden Beach Police force will be getting a new top cop following the resignation of Chief Jim Skinner Tuesday.

Skinner, who has held the position for the past seven years, will resign immediately, according to a statement released Tuesday by Mayor Glenn Singer.

"After a long discussion with Chief Skinner on Monday, we both felt it was in everyone's best interest for him to step down and for the Town to take the police department in a different direction at this time," Singer's statement said. "I want to thank him for his service and wish him well in future endeavors."

The news comes just a month after two Golden Beach officers were arrested on grand theft and organized scheme to defraud charges for allegedly working security jobs while on duty.

Another Golden Beach officer was arrested in January on similar charges. Skinner is not under investigation, Singer said.

Lt. Rudy Herbello was named interim chief until a permanent replacement can be found.
